Balance UX with tech restraints + business goals.
Balance UX with tech constraints + business goals.
Wouldn't it be great if designers could design exactly what the user needs, developers could develop the exact designs, and we'd be all be on our merry way?
We all know, this scenario happens 0% of the time. Just as we must meet users' needs and expectations, we almost equally need to keep the business and stakeholders' needs and expectations front of mind. This leads to a delicate dance of balance through the product design process.
A great example of a time when I creatively maintained user and business balance can be found in my Renewal Pipeline case study. The project was almost entirely scratched due to shifting product priorities, but the qualitative research I led confirmed how valuable the updates would be for our users daily. So, I heard 'No' as a 'Not a Yes Yet'. Instead of an all-or-nothing approach, I broke the work up into bite-sized pieces, prioritizing updates with the biggest impact for our users first. I then utilized a little bit of time at the end of our 2-week sprints for a few months, barring any higher priority work that needed more time. With this approach, we were able to achieve the same result. As a feature used multiple times a day by our users, we provided a huge experience upgrade, simplifying their sales renewal process, and helping them retain more clients. I just had to get a little creative to get there.
